We talk about mission through the Four Cs.
The First C is Commerce. We believe by engaging in business activities, the church can enormously broaden the number of people with whom it comes into contact; but also, it has the chance to model what it believes by the way it employs people and the kind of activities it does and the way it does those activities. The Second C is Compassion. If we want to come face to face with Christ, we need to go to the places and find the people in whom the Holy spirit makes Christ present. So, compassion isn't an act of pity for those worse off than ourselves. It's an act of worship in which we intend to come face to face with Christ. The Third C is Culture. We believe churches can become like estuaries where the saltwater of the church can meet the river water of the world. Gathering around artifacts or compositions that invoke the imagination church and world can interact and find beautiful things in common and create wonderful things together. And finally, Congregation is the Fourth C. We believe God is giving the church everything it needs for this generation. But if we're going to receive everything that the Holy Spirit is giving us, we need to unearth the energy that the church has too often neglected. Whether that's in the talents and gifts of disabled people, or perhaps what an asylum seeker is bringing to a congregation from their own culture, or maybe what a person with dementia or their caregiver is longing to give and to say, and to participate in. Too often, the church has neglected those and many other such gifts that God is giving us. We believe that the church will be renewed if we receive those gifts. |
HeartEdge is about a humbler
church and a bigger God.
We very much hope that
you'll join us on this quest together.
